Maria Scharwieß
At the age of 10, I received my first piano and organ instruction, and with 14 years, I played the organ regularly in hospital church services. During secondary school I received my diploma as a substitute church musician. Afterwards I was bandleader for 10 years, mostly in Norway.
In 1976, I returned to Berlin and majored in church music at the Spandau school for church music and got my diploma in 1979. Since September 1st, 1979, I have been employed by the Nathanael Church in Berlin, and, in addition, from 1999 to 2007 I was district cantor of Berlin-Schöneberg.
For over 20 years, I have been giving weekly organ concerts, mostly improvisations, also jazz, rock, pop and gospel themes, and also international folklore.
I have performed concerts in many places in Germany, Poland (Svinemünde) and Norway (Langesund, Brevik, Grimstad, Steinkjer and all 3 churches in Tromsø, Northnorway). My Radio and TV broadcasts in Germany have included Deutschlandfunk, SFB and RIAS Berlin.
Cd recordings: Organ jazz (Jazz auf der Pfeifenorgel), Berlin Concert (together with the Norwegian artists Henning Sommerro and John-Pål Inderberg), "Power of love" Vol. 1 and 2, Messe c-moll, "Advents- und Weihnachtslieder im Jazz-Gewande" and others (go to Audio »). |
